The business began with a sense of purpose. Despite the bleak backdrop of the Second World War and the country, Ceylon, continuing to be administered under British rule, for C. A. Harischandra, a visionary local entrepreneur and philanthropist, 1943 served as a catalyst. His entrepreneurial journey began with a dream to provide quality food products to Sri Lankans and on an unassuming plot of 20 perches in Matara thus began the milling of rice, kurakkan and chillies.
The company's pioneering instinct was not limited to product innovation alone, the Harischandra identity evolved and has today become a much-loved household brand name.
